    The BRIGHT Program was created by clinicians and researchers from the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience at UCCS. Our website provides more resources and local Colorado Springs services focused on promoting resilience in the aftermath of trauma. Check out the trauma support websites. 
  • International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies: Trauma During Adulthood
    This website contains helpful fact sheets and information concerning common reactions after traumatic events. 
  • National Center for PTSD
    This is an excellent website that has information about PTSD. If you want to learn about PTSD, check out mobile apps designed to treat PTSD, watch videos about PTSD, or learn about the impacts of PTSD on families, this is a great resource. The National Center for PTSD has a wide array of excellent apps focused on mental health coping. You can go directly to their list of apps by navigating to this site: https://www.ptsd.va.gov/appvid/mobile/index.asp
    The apps available include Virtual Hope Box, PTSD Coach, PTSD Family Coach, CBT-I Coach, COVID coach, and more. These apps  can help you learn new coping skills but should not replace the services of a mental health professional.

    This is a brief article that talks about challenges recovering from a sports injury, but the ideas covered can apply to any type of injury.

Resources for Injured Children and the Family Members of Injured Children

  • Healthcare Toolbo
    This is an excellent website with resources for children who have been injured as well as for parents and siblings of injured children. We recommend the downloadable and printable handouts. The handouts include materials for those coping with injuries, serious illnesses, and more. 
  • After the Injury 
    This website contains tips and information to help parents understand their child's reactions to injury and learn how to help children cope with trauma in a healthy way. This website also has a way for you to rate your child’s reactions  and get information about child reactions to trauma and injury. 
  • National Child Traumatic Stress Network:
    This site contains information, resources, and services  for children and families who experience or witness traumatic events.There is information about child trauma, about different types of trauma, and about different forms of trauma treatments.

Ways to Organize Support and Ask Friends, Family and Neighbors for Help

  • Lotsa Helping Hands
    A website that allows you to create a calendar for friends and family who want to support you. You can list the types of help you need and the people you invite into the helping community can sign up to drop off meals, help with transportation, or help with anything else you list. You can email people with notices about the type of help you need, and they can sign up to pitch in. This is one example of a way to organize the help you need and keep in contact with your community of support.
